En este articulo se hace una revision historica del papel que desempena Canada en America Latina, y se examina el cambio de las politicas del gobierno conservador de Stephen Harper (2006-2015) a las de la actual administracion liberal de Justin Trudeau (2015-? ). Se argumenta que la transicion del gobierno mas conservador y realista de Harper hacia la politica mas progresista y de corte internacionalista liberal de Trudeau genera el potencial para que Canada desempene un papel constructivo en la region. Sin embargo, hay algunos elementos de continuidad entre los dos gobiernos, en particular en relacion con la promocion del comercio y la inversion en el sector minero
