Abstract
O espaço público da rua tem sido alvo de planejamento e ações projetuais fundamentais para intervenções urbanas contemporâneas, quando assume um novo papel de responsabilidade no planejamento das cidades e na qualidade de vida das pessoas, de forma a contribuir na criação de oportunidades econômicas e na promoção de equidade social; promovendo também a saúde da população e auxiliando nas práticas que envolvem a segurança pública. Portanto, a rua é hoje um elemento chave para as boas práticas de planejamento urbano que visam à sustentabilidade ambiental e econômica do lugar. Através da visão conceitual e antropológica de DaMatta (1997), sobre o exercício da cidadania no Brasil, e das recomendações urbanísticas de Ghel & Svarre (2018), que promovem o uso da rua como um espaço cidadão, experiências com projetos de parklets executados na cidade do Recife (Brasil) e emToronto (Canada) são analisados e a rua é discutida enquanto espaço de cidadania nas duas cidades. Nestas, as culturas e formas de ver e vivenciar a rua se mostram diferentes, refletindo, consequentemente, diferentes soluções projetuais para o uso da mesma, bem como para o uso e apropriação do espaçopúblico urbano.
