Endangering women's right to freedom from discrimination in garment industries in Bangladesh: a legal update in an international perspective

Abstract
In Bangladesh, as elsewhere in the world, women's right to freedom from discrimination is not always respected. Despite the prevalence of a range of legal safeguards and judicial mandates women have been encountering a glaring discrimination in employment in the face of their fundamental rights to equality. This article seeks to uncover a range of fundamental flaws in the relevant laws regulating women's work in Bangladesh and recommends the reconceptualisation of those laws to meet their unique concerns and perspectives in employment. In particular, the paper attempts to explore in brief the contemporary workplace experiences in Australia, India and Canada which facilitated an understanding about the modern concept of 'equality', and develops ways with special reference to those foreign jurisdictions as to how discrimination against women could be redressed, or at least, narrowed down in the workplace in Bangladesh.
