La professionnalisation et les multiples engagements de l’armée française depuis le début du XXIe siècle posent les questions fondamentales de la préservation de la mémoire opérationnelle et de celle de l’expérience combattante des individus dans leur diversité. Quelles traces exploitables par l’historien demeureront à l’ère du tout numérique pour décrire les campagnes contemporaines ou documenter le vécu des soldats ? Cet article présente la construction d’une méthode transdisciplinaire de collecte des matériaux de recherche adaptée aux contraintes du monde la défense, au travers de la réalisation d’un doctorat en histoire et d’une expérimentation menée au Service historique de la Défense (SHD) en France.
