Abstract
Abstract The strengthening of the global financial system has arisen as a major challenge at the beginning of the twenty-first century and the new millennium. Over the past quarter of a century, since the disappearance in 1973 of the institutionalized inter-national monetary system established by the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference, a completely new and unprecedented situation has emerged in the financial mar-kets under the pressure of increasing globalization and far-reaching regulatory, financial and technological developments.
