Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The most celebrated advocate of Canadian annexation to the United States, Goldwin Smith, in his book, Canada and the Canadian Question, published in 1891, maintained that the regions of Canada were merely northern extensions of American ones. English Canadian social and economic life was becoming more like that of the United States. In founding the new Dominion of Canada in 1867 the Fathers wished to ensure that Canadians would remain British. The Canadian Reconstruction Association, formed in 1917, spoke for big business and campaigned vigorously to prevent major revisions in the tariff demanded by an aroused farmers&s; movement. World War II strengthened the Idea of Canadian nationhood among Anglo-Canadians because it increased the country&s;s self-confidence and destroyed any vestige of colonial mentality. In the 1960s, many writers began to define Canadian society as one that was morally superior to US society.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
