Neste ensaio, abordamos o tema da educação e elegemos como objeto de investigação as reformas educacionais brasileiras das últimas três décadas, buscando compreender os fundamentos e as intencionalidades que as direcionam. O problema que orientou nossas análises foi a questão: como interpretar as recentes reformas educacionais a partir dos conceitos de totalitarismo de mercado, racionalidade neoliberal e estado de exceção? Conceitos que foram referenciados em Dardot e Laval, Benjamin e Agamben. Como objetivos, propomos caracterizar o totalitarismo de mercado e indicar como essa forma econômico-política afeta os serviços públicos e o funcionamento do próprio Estado; e interpretar algumas das recentes reformas educacionais brasileiras, referenciadas no conceito de racionalidade neoliberal. Como resultados de investigação, argumentamos que as reformas educacionais se aproximam da lógica empresarial, e aquilo que se apresenta como progresso leva à regressão; portanto, à exclusão econômica e cultural de toda a sociedade.
