Abstract
Het thema van het congres was ‘Bijenhouden met en in de landbouw’, geïnspireerd door de grootschalige landbouw in Canada en de Verenigde Staten en de grote rol daarin van de commerciële bijenhouderij, inclusief koninginnenproductie, honingoogst, honingverwerking en vermarkting. En voor alles: gezonde honingbijen! Elke ochtend startte met een extra lange themalezing, passend bij het centrale Apimondia thema, bijvoorbeeld over geïntegreerde gewasbestuiving (Isaac Rufus), bijengezondheid (Peter Rosenkranz), erfelijkheid achter de sociale organisatie en gedrag van de honingbij (Gene Robinson over moderne moleculaire genetica). De meest bezochte themalezing was van Tom Seeley over ‘Darwiniaans bijenhouden’, meer als tegenhanger van de grootschalige industriële bijenhouderij
