This article examines a new methodology in the field of vocational rehabilitation called employer-based rehabilitation. The approach involves conducting as much of the rehabilitation process as possible in real work sites. Special attention is paid to the assessment of functional work skills as this has special relevance in the current labour market which emphasises multiskilling. Lougheed explains that conducting the vocational assessment and training in the setting of a real workplace makes sure that the clients and the employers find out quickly exactly what skills are needed for rehabilitation.
