Abstract
Dany Laferriere chegou no Quebec em 1976, fugindo da ditadura de Jean-Claude Duvalier (mais conhecido como Baby Doc) no Haiti. Em terras estrangeiras, Laferriere desenvolveu um conjunto de dez obras, que Laferriere definiu como sua autobiografia americana. Embora o autor empregue o termo “autobiografia”, este nao seria o termo adequado para classificar a escrita dessas dez obras. Isso porque os relatos de sua vida no Haiti ate os 23 anos (ciclo haitiano) e os relatos de sua vida no Canada e nos Estados Unidos enquanto negro e migrante (ciclo americano) sao permeados por situacoes ficcionais, de modo que o pacto de veracidade que caracteriza uma autobiografia nao ocorre (LEJEUNE, 2008). Entretanto, outras classificacoes sao possiveis. Sendo assim, a analise da escrita de si que representa a autobiographie americaine de Laferriere tera como referencia a tese de Diana Irene Klinger, defendida na UERJ: Escritas de si, escritas do outro: autoficcao e etnografia na narrativa latino-americana contemporânea.
