La Loi sur la protection de la jeunesse au Québec protège les enfants qui se trouvent dans des situations de vulnérabilité accrue. En même temps, cette loi reconnaît à l’enfant d’importants droits de participation aux procédures de protection de la jeunesse et est conforme ainsi à la tendance internationale encadrée par la Convention relative aux droits de l’enfant. Les notions de vulnérabilité, alliée à la protection de l’enfant, et de participation, allant de pair avec l’autonomisation, semblent antinomiques de prime abord. La littérature examinant ces notions, bien qu’elle soit abondante, n’a pas encore cherché à analyser ces concepts dans le contexte particulier de la protection de l’enfance. Les auteures veulent pallier ce manque de théorisation dans ce domaine clé du droit de l’enfance. Afin de suggérer des formes d’harmonisation théoriques et pratiques entre ces concepts, elles présentent une recherche combinant théorie, analyse de la loi et entrevues avec des professionnels de la protection de la jeunesse.
