\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tThe long range structure of gels comprised of platelike particles is the focus of the present communication. Three different materials were examined in different studies: boehmite AIO(OH), montmorillonite and kaolinite. Gels of montmorillonite and kaolinite were dried by the supercritical method, after exchange of the initial liquid for liquid CO2, and the clay particles were large enough to directly observe the gel network in a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Boehmite gels were also observed in a SEM, after they were made to swell in Cu electrolyte solutions. These observations are presented altogether in a comparative fashion and a qualitative behavior is proposed with special attention to the theory by Derjaguin, Landau, Verwey and Overbeek (DLVO theory).\n\t\t\t
