Abstract
Ce travail examine la correspondance d’exil de Louise Michel et y recense les objets qui permettent à la déportée de poursuivre ses projets d’écriture en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Ces quelques possessions rendent manifestes les conditions de précarité dans lesquelles écrit l’ancienne Communarde. Les lettres, en plus de montrer la fortune de ces objets, témoignent du minimalisme radical de la militante. Cette qualité explique largement l’ascendant que Michel exerce sur ses camarades exilés avec qui elle partage biens et écrits. Parmi ces déportés, l’on compte Henry Bauër, fils naturel d’Alexandre Dumas. La singularité du caractère de Louise Michel éclaire également la correspondance entretenue avec Victor Hugo. En plus de vers envoyés au poète, Michel expédie des objets naturels, sortes d’emblèmes de son regard sur le monde matériel. Le tout est fragmentaire, résultat des pressions de la surveillance et des remous politiques; bref, ces textes épistolaires sont à l’image de la vie mouvementée de l’auteure.
