Abstract
Les évènements de Mai 1968 ont non seulement bouleversé Paris, ils ont aussi perturbé le Festival de Cannes, au point de provoquer sa cessation. Suite à l’affaire Langlois et aux manifestations parisiennes, les réalisateurs rassemblés à Cannes ont protesté contre le maintien du festival dans un tel contexte. Après débats et projections annulés, le Festival de Cannes est finalement interrompu le 19 mai. Parce qu’elles ont impliqué étudiants, réalisateurs de la Nouvelle Vague et intellectuels, les convulsions de Mai 1968 qui ont transformé les festival cannois indiquent que les mouvements ont été à la fois politique et culturel. Le Festival de Cannes est ressorti profondément marqué de 1968 et il en porte encore la trace aujourd’hui. Depuis 2001, un vent révolutionnaire souffle à nouveau sur la Croisette, se faisant l’écho d’une nouvelle conscience politique à travers un nouveau cinéma. Mai 1968 a ainsi permis au Festival de passer d’un évènement mondain encadré par le politique à un festival mondial, souvent engagé, qui donne le "la" en matière cinématographique.
