In this work, we investigated the effect of map presentations and landmarks on wayfinding performance. We carried out an experiment in virtual reality, participants were asked to navigate inside a 3D environment to find targets shown on the maps. We studied two kinds of maps: Skymap, a world-scale, and world-aligned head-up map and a track-up bird’s eye view map. Results showed that neither SkyMap nor landmarks did improve target finding performances. In fact, participants performed better with the track-up map.
