Abstract

Nous analysons la structure de "Là-bas dans la plaine" de Vartan Hézaran et les dialogues des personnages à la lumière de la recherche sur les attitudes envers le français ayant cours dans un pays où prolifèrent les programmes d’immersion. Cela nous permet de démontrer comment la communication fragmentaire des personnages de Là-bas dans la plaine et le cloisonnement des Francophones minoritaires dans le recueil reflètent l’emploi sélectif du français chez les élèves d’immersion. Finalement, nous examinons les liens tendus entre les habitants du Swift Current imaginé par Hézaran vis-à-vis de la cohésion thématique des nouvelles du recueil. Notre étude de l’ambiguïté générique du texte qui nous intéresse nous mène à une compréhension du fonctionnement des qualités romanesques d’un paysage littéraire dans lequel des voix multiples luttent pour se faire entendre.
