O presente artigo decorre de trabalho de investigação promovido pelo Centro de Investigação em Educação e Psicologia da Universidade de Évora, que pretendeu avaliar a forma como decorreu o processo de Reconhecimento, Validação e Certificação de Competências, no Alentejo/Portugal, no período 2001-2005, os impactos que este teve na população que nele participou e a forma como a certificação formal de competências ocorrida determinou os projetos de vida, pessoais e profissionais, dos adultos que, no período referido, a concluíram, com sucesso. No projeto de investigação, de cariz descritivo e interpretativo, recorreu-se a uma metodologia, simultaneamente, quantitativa e qualitativa, com recurso a entrevistas aos responsáveis das institutições promotoras do processo e através da aplicação de questionários aos adultos envolvidos no processo. No que respeita aos impactos do processo de RVCC, estes verificaram-se, maioritariamente, na dimensão pessoal. Na dimensão profissional, os impactos foram residuais. Foram as mulheres quem mais protagonizou e valorizou o processo de RVCC. Quinze por cento dos adultos inquiridos prosseguiu os estudos.
