Partant d’une réflexion sur la perception problématique de la ville dans la somme romanesque de Jean-Simon DesRochers, cet article se concentre sur le personnage de Bruno, itinérant étroitement lié à l’espace urbain. En tant que « chronotype », Bruno apparaît comme le révélateur d’un certain état du discours social : condamné à l’invisibilité, l’itinérant bénéficie de solidarités ponctuelles ou s’inscrit dans des micro-communautés marginales, au sein d’une société globalement fragmentée. Mais il est également porteur d’une poétique romanesque singulière : au-delà de son apparente facture réaliste, voire hyperréaliste, L’année noire mobilise en effet de nombreux intertextes poétiques qui constituent Bruno en avatar du voyant hugolien ou rimbaldien.
