Abstract
Een 13-jarige jongen kreeg tijdens een voetbalwedstrijd een trap tegen zijn rechterbinnenenkel. De enkel verzwikte in inversierichting, wat hevige pijn veroorzaakte aan de laterale zijde. De jongen liep mankend van het veld af. Na enkele dagen rust nam de pijn nam vrij snel af en na een week begon de jongen weer met de voetbaltraining. Echter, de pijn kwam daardoor terug. De jongen bezocht daarop de huisarts. Deze constateerde drukpijn op de laterale malleolus. Aangezien dit volgens de Ottawa Ankle Rules (bijlage III) kan wijzen op een fractuur, liet zij voor de zekerheid een röntgenfoto maken. Deze toonde echter geen afwijkingen. De jongen werd vervolgens doorverwezen naar een fysiotherapeut. Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft de casus, de symptomatologie en de behandeling.
