Cet article étudie le chemin de l’école comme un possible tiers-lieu, soit un espace interstitiel permettant l’expression de l’agency enfantine. À partir des données produites dans le cadre d’un projet de recherche interdisciplinaire, réalisé dans trois cantons alpins suisses auprès de 71 enfants âgés entre 8 et 12 ans, nous montrons comment le chemin de l’école représente un lieu propice pour l’expression des capacités d’action individuelle et sociale favorisant l’autonomie de l’enfant. L’analyse des données révèle que, même si l’organisation du trajet scolaire demeure principalement de la responsabilité des adultes, les enfants ont une marge de manœuvre concernant le choix du parcours à effectuer et la modalité de déplacement (à pied, à vélo, en trottinette, en transport scolaire ou public). Différentes pratiques et formes d’agency sont alors visibles : des routines spécifiques à la culture enfantine se déroulent en alternance avec des actions plus transgressives qui permettent de distinguer le monde des enfants des normes et règles édictées par les adultes.
