Abstract
Cette étude présente l’enseignement du tablā dans deux universités en Inde. Elle aborde l’approche pédagogique déployée et les conséquences artistiques et sociales sur la culture du tablā. La recherche décrit l’importance dans ce cadre institutionnel d’une transmission orale inscrite dans une relation professeur-élève codifiée tout en laissant une place à l’écriture. L'enquête montre que cet enseignement ne peut prétendre, à lui seul, à la formation de d’interprètes professionnels faute d’une spécialisation et de temps. Bien que disposant de vastes connaissances, les diplômés ont bien souvent un niveau de compétences pratiques insuffisant au regard des exigences de la scène musicale hindoustanie. Pour autant, ces écoles forment de nouveaux enseignants, dispensent des connaissances générales et techniques pouvant satisfaire à différentes professions du monde musical et délivrent des diplômes assurant une certaine reconnaissance sociale. Elles ont également mis en valeur le gharānā en tant qu’institution sociale indissociable de la musique hindoustanie et désignant, pour les musiciens, une appartenance prestigieuse, largement revendiquée.
