Abstract
The Canadian novel ‘In Search of April Raintree’, which is written by Beatrice Culleton, deals with the young women's search for their identity. The protagonists April (a Metis lady located in a metropolitan), and her sister Cheryl (living in semi-urban Winnipeg) draws us into a much larger story – the story of the Metis race as such. Cheryl is separated from April since childhood due to their parents’ alcoholism. They both grow up at foster homes: Cheryl loves the Metis culture, whereas April develops disregard and indifference as most of Metis are slum-dwellers, criminals, have-not’s and are unsuccessful.
