Cet article propose de se saisir du débat philosophique autour du concept d’Anthropocène au sein des sciences sociales afin de poser un regard sur les stratégies émergentes menées par les disciplines du design pour prendre part au nécessaire changement, à travers un matériau caractéristique de l’influence anthropocénique : les déchets plastiques. Dans un premier temps, conciliantes avec l’idée que l’humanité est une entité globale responsable du réchauffement climatique en tant qu’espèce biologique, les initiatives choisies permettent de décrire une pratique de design qui s’inspire des changements et des contraintes liés à l’apparition d’une nouvelle ère climatique pour développer un nouveau rapport aux déchets plastiques et à leur transformation. Dans un second temps, le point de vue critique qui envisage l’Anthropocène comme le résultat d’une construction culturelle et inégalitaire incarnée par le capitalisme permet de présenter des pratiques de design qui s’intéressent davantage à des systèmes de production recentralisés et à leur partage.
