Cet article, issu d’une recherche-action, identifie les causes de la crise que traverse la communication de solidarité internationale (CSI). Nos travaux empiriques suggèrent deux causes principales. D’une part, la CSI parait être dominée par des approches transmissives et persuasives (Dacheux, 1998 ; Quéré, 1991) qui ne permettent pas de comprendre la complexité des enjeux. D’autre part, la relation de solidarité internationale semble être inscrite dans une dimension philanthropique (Freyss, 2004 ; Laville, 2010), elle-même propre à une pensée coloniale et universaliste (Glissant, 1997 ; Quijano, 1994). Il importe donc, comme nous le ferons en conclusion, de suggérer des pistes pour une autre CSI profondément inscrite dans le champ de la communication internationale et interculturelle.
