Abstract

Cet article présente une étude en didactique des sciences qui a eu pour objectif de mieux comprendre et expliquer les différences de performance réalisées par des jeunes marocains et québécois de 15 ans dans une évaluation internationale. Notre étude s'inscrit dans une perspective de diagnostic des conceptions en sciences (Tsai et Chou, 2002, Kraus et Minstrell, 2002 ; Thijs et Van Den Berg, 1995 ; Tsai et Chou, 2002). Le cadre théorique est inspiré des travaux de Balacheff (1995) sur la caractérisation des conceptions suivant la dynamique sujet/milieu. La démarche de recherche est basée sur une approche mixte à dominance qualitative. Nos résultats attestent l'existence d'une importante influence de conceptions d'origine culturelle dans l'orientation des réponses d'élêves aux items standardisés utilisés dans certaines grandes enquêtes internationales. Ces résultats offrent donc des pistes de réflexion sur la possibilité de relativiser les explications de différence de performance entre pays de contexte culturel différent ainsi que des pistes de solution pour les minimiser. Conséquemment, notre étude soulève un questionnement de nature didactique sur la modélisation des contenus et de format d'items dits standardisés. Quels peuvent être les invariants dans l'habillage d'un item standardisé en sciences au regard des conceptions contextuellement valides qui orientent les réponses des élêves?
