Abstract
Partant d’une enquête ethnographique réalisée au sujet de l’obésité au Burkina Faso, nous dépeignons la façon dont nous avons exploité les situations d’étonnement auxquelles nous avons fait face. Ces dernières mobilisaient les corps, celui des enquêtés et le nôtre, et avaient en commun de faire émerger diverses formes de douleur. Confrontée à des enjeux théoriques et méthodologiques que nous n’avions pu anticiper, nous décrivons comment une approche phénoménologique nous a servi pour appréhender ces corps douloureux et comment la posture de recherche qu’elle a induite a ouvert des voies de recherche fructueuses. Ayant la particularité de concevoir le corps comme un site d’agencéité, ce courant a permis d’expliquer comment, au Burkina Faso, de nouveaux styles de vie naissent en silence au départ de corps douloureux, menant à la souffrance, dans un contexte où les espaces publics et intimes laissent peu de place aux discours tenus sur l’obésité.
