Abstract
Para que los estudiantes puedan comunicarse con efectividad en el idioma inglés, requieren desarrollar su competencia comunicativa a través de la dimensión sociolingüística. Así, este artículo es una revisión teórica sobre la dimensión sociolingüística en la enseñanza del idioma. Se ha analizado el trabajo desde tres áreas fundamentales: a) la dimensión sociolingüística en la enseñanza del idioma inglés, b) el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las lenguas (2002) y c) estudios sobre la dimensión sociolingüística en la enseñanza del inglés. Se encontró que hay una carencia en la enseñanza de esta dimensión en el aula de inglés como idioma extranjero; por consiguiente, es responsabilidad del docente proveer la experiencia para que los estudiantes logren este aprendizaje.
