Abstract
L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser l’effet de la stratification du marché scolaire sur la persistance de la reproduction sociale des inégalités dans l’enseignement postsecondaire au Québec. Les résultats obtenus à partir d’un échantillon (N = 2 677) d’une cohorte d’élèves nés en 1984 et observés jusqu’à l’âge de 22 ans mettent en évidence deux constats principaux. En aval, les élèves fréquentant un établissement privé ou public avec programmes enrichis (en mathématiques, en langue et en science) accèdent aux études collégiales et universitaires dans une proportion nettement plus élevée que leurs pairs ayant seulement suivi des programmes réguliers dans un établissement public. Les analyses montrent que l’influence de l’établissement fréquenté s’opère elle-même par l’intermédiaire des inégalités de performances et d’aspirations scolaires et professionnelles caractérisant les élèves. En amont, des analyses supplémentaires révèlent que la probabilité de fréquenter un établissement privé ou public avec programmes enrichis est fortement corrélée avec l’origine sociale de l’élève.
