Abstract
L’article décrit les pratiques d’une équipe en sciences sociales face à une demande institutionnelle de recherche sur le problème de la « qualité de l’air intérieur ». En étudiant l’appel à propositions, les réponses des scientifiques et leurs interactions avec les commanditaires, l’enquête explore à quelles conditions il est possible de définir une approche scientifique de ce type de problème public défini par les administrations. Positionnée à la frontière entre champ scientifique et expertise d’État, l’équipe doit mener un travail de déconstruction du problème public par l’étude critique de la genèse et de l’usage des catégories bureaucratiques qui sont à son principe. L’article souligne ainsi le poids, dans la « recherche orientée », d’influences peu visibles et répandues, moins souvent analysées que les pressions directes exercées sur les chercheurs.
