Dans sa conférence grand public, Jérôme Bastianelli retrace l’histoire du Crystal Palace, et s’appuie sur le pamphlet écrit par John Ruskin en 1854 au moment de l’inauguration du bâtiment (qui abrita les expositions universelles jusqu’en 1936) pour réfléchir au caractère novateur de sa conception de la sauvegarde du patrimoine — une conception dont on retrouve les traces dans les initiatives contemporaines prises par les pouvoirs publics et les institutions culturelles actuelles.
