Membranes developed by Danish water technology firm Aquaporin A/S are being used in a pilot plant, which has been set up by a company in Canada to test, on an industrial scale, a forward osmosis system that it is currently developing. As this brief article shows, Aquaporin's membranes are playing an important role in the system's ability to effectively clean both produced, and oil and gas flow-back water – some of the dirtiest water in any industry – whilst consuming very little energy.
