This study reviewed the experiences of thirteen Latin American countries and one comparator, Canada. The researchers identified and analyzed the contribution of the training of family medicine specialists to the development of primary health care (PHC) in Latin America. The review of 273 publications led to the conclusion that the training of these specialists promotes the biopsychosocial model and the PHC strategy.
