Dans le contexte actuel des recompositions socioterritoriales que connaissent les campagnes québécoises, se façonnent de nouveaux processus d’habitabilité intimement liés à la cohabitation d’individus et de groupes qui n’habitent pas cet espace de la même manière. Cet article propose de dépasser la lecture binaire axée sur les antagonismes opposant les nouveaux ruraux et les ruraux de longue date. Il met de l’avant qu’il faut plutôt s’attacher à leur « espace de rencontre » pour conceptualiser la nouvelle ruralité qui marque ce début du XXIe siècle au Québec. L’espace de rencontre n’est pas sans créer des tensions puisqu’il est l’occasion de confronter rêves et ambitions, usages, visions et aspirations. Il représente une occasion de dialogue et de prise de décision démocratique à partir desquels se construit la nouvelle ruralité.
