El presente artículo indaga en la poco estudiada temática del silencio en cinco poetas hispanos de los siglos XX y XXI: Carlos Bousoño, José Manuel Caballero Bonald, Antonio Colinas, Juan Luis Panero y Emilio Adolfo Westphalen. Se analiza en los siguientes frentes: el silencio como actitud de concentración literaria, como oposición a la razón pactada y al lenguaje convencional, como análisis intuitivo de una realidad que está más allá de la percepción y como actitud de espera de una revelación trascendente más allá de la muerte. Este tema es de la máxima importancia ya que ha influido a místicos, a románticos, a simbolistas, a vanguardistas y a figuras contemporáneas de la talla de Samuel Beckett, de Octavio Paz y de la poesía del silencio española, entre otros.
