Abstract
The National ME/FM Action Network (Canada) spearheaded the drive for the development of an expert consensus document, which would include a clinical definition, diagnostic and treatment protocols, and a discussion of pertinent research for the Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS). The National ME/FM Action Network approached two clinicians knowledgeable and experienced in FMS: Dr. Anil Jain of Ontario and Dr. Bruce Carruthers of British Columbia, who agreed to co-author a draft document. Health Canada set up an expert medical subcommittee, which established the “Terms of Reference” for the consensus panel. Health Canada planned for a Consensus Workshop to be held on March 30 to April 1, 2001. All members of the expert consensus panel were sent the draft document, which went through three rounds of revision prior to the Consensus Workshop.
