Abstract
Au début de l’année 2018, le Conseil national des musulmans canadiens demande au premier ministre Justin Trudeau que le 29 janvier, anniversaire de l’attentat à la mosquée de Québec, soit désigné « Journée de commémoration et d’action contre l’islamophobie ». Cette proposition relance au Québec une controverse sur l’emploi du terme islamophobie. L’analyse que développe l’auteur est que les considérations invoquées par les défenseurs de l’emploi du terme islamophobie et ses opposants renvoient à deux ordres de raisons portant le premier sur la signification du mot, le second sur la portée de son usage.
