Abstract
To the Editor—We recently reported the results of a large multicenter cohort study aimed to validate the Baveno VI criteria in 507 patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) with compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD) [1, 2]. We found that Baveno VI criteria, based on a combination of liver stiffness measurement (LSM) less than 20 kPa and platelet count of more than 150 000, spared 10.1–22.8% of esophagogastroduodenoscopies while missing 0% of esophageal varices needing treatment. Expansion of Baveno VI criteria to HIV cirrhosis criteria (platelets >110 000 and LSM <30 kPa) would spare 28–48.7% of esophagogastroduodenoscopies while missing 0–2.2% of esophageal varices needing treatment.
