Abstract
Cet article explore des caractéristiques d’une recherche ethnographique menée en contexte linguistique minoritaire et portant sur le rôle du personnel enseignant dans la production et la reproduction de la langue et de la culture galloises. Le rapprochement au terrain, considérant les similitudes entre l’Ontario français et le pays de Galles, autant que la distance avec celui-ci sont abordés à travers une posture originale dite d’insider/outsider. Les résultats traitent du contexte sociétal diglossique de la langue au pays de Galles, qui s’apparente à celui de l’Ontario français, et de la possibilité de mieux le comprendre à partir d’une ethnographie qui tient compte de cette posture originale épistémologique. L’apprentissage de la langue, la prise de contact avec les acteurs clés, la sensibilisation à l’histoire et aux enjeux de la minorité ainsi que le rôle enseignant sont traités. Il en ressort une contribution inédite qui renseigne ce que signifie mener une ethnographie dans un milieu linguistique minoritaire autre que celui auquel on appartient, mais avec lequel des liens sont tissés.
