En milieu linguistique minoritaire au Canada, où les écoles francophones accueillent une population diversifiée sur les plans culturel et linguistique, de nombreux élèves ayants droit commencent leur scolarisation avec des compétences limitées en français. Cet article vise à mettre en lumière les représentations et les positionnements identitaires de jeunes élèves plurilingues d’une école francophone de la région de Vancouver ayant reçu du soutien linguistique dans le cadre d’un programme de francisation. À partir d’une étude ethnographique de sociolinguistique menée dans une école de la région de Vancouver en 2010-2011, cet article discutera, d’une part, des représentations de l’identité francophone, telles qu’elles ont été exprimées par les élèves de francisation, et, d’autre part, de leurs efforts d’investissement ainsi que de leurs positionnements identitaires par rapport à ces représentations. Les résultats de la recherche souligneront les sentiments d’inadéquation et d’aliénation exprimés par les élèves de francisation qui se reconnaissent peu dans les représentations stéréotypées de l’identité francophone. Les expériences des élèves de francisation, considérés ici en tant que néo-locuteurs du français, illustreront les dynamiques de légitimation ayant cours en milieu scolaire et inspireront des pistes de réflexion en vue de rendre le système scolaire francophone canadien plus inclusif.
