La théorie anthropologique du didactique attribue un rôle déterminant au questionnement du savoir mathématique et propose comme outil d’analyse l’élaboration de modèles épistémologiques de référence (MER). Nous présentons un MER du développement de l’algèbre scolaire qui s’inscrit dans un modèle plus large permettant d’articuler l’arithmétique, l’algèbre, les nombres relatifs, la modélisation fonctionnelle et le calcul différentiel. Ce modèle prend comme point de départ les « programmes de calcul » et considère l’algèbre comme un processus de modélisation structuré en trois étapes. Nous illustrons sa potentialité pour la création et l’analyse de séquences didactiques dans la première étape du processus d’algébrisation.
