Abstract
Longtemps, j’ai cru que la foi arrivait comme un cadeau de Dieu, à l’improviste et en totalité. C’est Georges Brassens qui m’en avait convaincu. Contre « [s] on voisin du dessus, un certain Blaise Pascal », qui lui a « gentiment donné ce conseil amical » : « Mettez-vous à genoux, priez et implorez. Faites semblant de croire, et bientôt vous croirez », il annonce que « sur le chemin du ciel [il] ne fer [a] plus un pas », car « la foi viendra d’elle-même ou elle ne viendra pas » (Brassens, 1965). Je l’ai cru, mais j’avais tort. Tort de faire une confiance aveugle même à Tonton Georges, tort de le laisser définir pour moi un concept théologique aussi important. Car si la foi est bel et bien donnée, elle mûrit pourtant. Et si la foi vient bel et bien d’elle-même, elle permet cependant aux croyants-es d’avancer sur les chemins qu’elle leur ouvre. Depuis cinquante ans que s’éduque ma foi, depuis vingt-cinq ans, que je contribue à éduquer celle des autres, dans différents contextes (Église, École, Université), dans plusieurs lieux (animation de jeunesse, paroisse, aumônerie scolaire, école pastorale, faculté de théologie), dans plusieurs pays (Suisse, Polynésie française, États-Unis, Canada) que j’y ai fait des rencontres (des gens, des cultures, des théologies), il était temps pour moi d’aller plus loin que ma première impression, de creuser plus profondément que mon idée reçue et de réfléchir sur la manière dont la foi peut s’éduquer.
