Durant la guerre franco-prussienne, beaucoup de soldats allemands étaient logés chez l’habitant. Ce contexte a fait émerger un quotidien nouveau, partagé par les soldats allemands et les civils français. Les sources textuelles et iconographiques renvoient à des réalités distinctes politiques, sociales, régionales et individuelles, mêlant ainsi les différentes perspectives. L’étude révèle que ces cantonnements pouvaient être à l’origine de violence ou, a contrario, d’entente mutuelle. Cette dernière est souvent oubliée. Pourtant, elle témoigne de l’importance de l’interconnexion des identités en dehors du cadre national. Enfin, l’article interroge la mémoire collective en France et en Allemagne pendant les décennies d’après-guerre.
