Abstract
Les « Albums de la Pléiade », collection destinée à promouvoir la célèbre « Bibliothèque de la Pléiade » de Gallimard, présentent une série de volumes dédiés à la vie d’écrivains précédemment publiés par la Pléiade qui s’appuient sur une riche iconographie, accompagnée d’un texte biographique. Pourtant, dans de nombreux textes introducteurs des « Albums », leurs auteurs vont à l’encontre de l’attente lectoriale et réfutent explicitement l’appartenance de leurs ouvrages au genre biographique. Cet article examine les raisons d’un tel rejet de la biographie au sein de la collection, en tenant compte de la position de la biographie en tant que genre largement marginalisé au sein du champ littéraire, ainsi que de son rapport à l’iconographie, revendiquée comme élément central de la composition générique des « Albums de la Pléiade ».
