Abstract
Abstract During a hydrogen reformer outlet manifold inspection, a major flaw required a welding repair on an aged 21Cr33Ni1Nb bull tee casting. The weld repair procedure was developed based on industry experience and used new inspection technology to meet the repaired piece dimension tolerances. The paper completes a review of the casting material characteristics and aging effects at high temperature. Then, the repair procedure is detailed with the different steps completed: inspection, defect excavation, characterization of the defect to repair, heat treatment, welding parameters used and final inspection.
