Abstract
Lactose intolerance is the absence or deficiency of the enzyme lactase, an enzyme responsible for hydrolyzing lactose in glucose and galactose, monosaccharides absorbable by the intestinal mucosa. People with lactose intolerance may have a direct influence on their nutritional status. Thus, this work has as its main objective to study the prevalence of cases of lactose intolerance in a laboratory in Tubarao - SC, in the years 2015 to 2019. The survey of the type of data collection occurred through the history of patients who underwent the exam of the lactose intolerance curve, in the years 2015 to 2019, following an annual script, where the data are separated according to the age and sex of the patients. Data analysis was performed through percentage and the Tukey statistical test, thus evaluating whether there were similarities between the female or male sex and the age group. Articles from Scielo and Pubmed were used as the database for this work. Among the authors used, Barr (2013), Morais (2013) and Mattar (2010) stand out. After the analyzes, it was concluded that the number of women affected is greater than men, having relation to the number of requests, in which the number of women was greater than the number of requests from the male sex, similar to other studies. The predominant age group in males was in children aged 1 to 10 years old and in females, although the data has fluctuated considerably, the age group with the most predominance was between 26 to 50 years old. Thus, it was found that there was agreement of the results obtained in this research with similar research, carried out in Brazil and Canada.
