Abstract
Cette contribution cherche à situer l’oralité au sein des principaux médiateurs de l’enquête ethnomusicologique. Caractériser le lieu de l’oral nous permettra de comprendre en quoi l’ethnomusicologie se situe aux confins des études linguistiques. Puis, après avoir abordé les aspects méthodologiques de l’enquête ethnomusicologique au Canada français, nous allons analyser ses liens plus étroits avec le développement des disciplines sœurs comme la dialectologie. Nous étudierons le rôle de l’ethnologie dans l’élaboration de la représentation symbolique de la nation ; c’est d’abord l’histoire européenne des études folkloriques qui nous intéressera et qui servira en quelque sorte d’introduction au développement des études folkloriques et ethnologiques au Canada français. L’épistémologie de l’ethnomusicologie permet de déceler des recoupements avec différentes disciplines, ce qui nous conduira à nous pencher sur la Société du parler français au Canada et les grands ténors de l’ethnologie dans les travaux de collecte du patrimoine vocal au Canada français. Cette contribution théorique retrace également les différentes étapes de la transformation du travail de collectage et les liens intimes qui unissent au Québec les différents intellectuels œuvrant dans des sphères d’activités souvent distinctes.
