La désindustrialisation débutant dans les années 1970 pose à nos sociétés la question de l’héritage industriel. Celui-ci est important et touche de nombreux territoires qui ont prospéré grâce à l’activité industrielle. Lors de la fermeture des unités de production, les populations locales doivent faire le deuil de l’industrie. Ce processus est accompagné par la création d’une association dans laquelle les anciens ouvriers tiennent une place importante, permettant ainsi le passage de l’activité économique à l’activité culturelle. Première soucieuse du devenir du patrimoine industriel, l’association locale prend une part active à la reconnaissance et à la valorisation de cet héritage qui depuis peu est considéré par le grand public comme un patrimoine digne de ce nom.
