À partir de l’analyse d’un échantillon de sites Web français et canadiens, cet article interroge l’évolution des liens entre technologie de l’information et muséologie dans le domaine de la diffusion du patrimoine (en particulier photographique) sur Internet. Les mutations qui en découlent font apparaître un croisement entre deux types de médiation : l’un issu de la tradition muséale et l’autre de la tradition documentaire. Dans les dispositifs de valorisation en ligne étudiés, on peut repérer des formes de construction de la relation aux publics, dont l’articulation de logiques de consultation et d’interprétation questionnent les modalités de la médiation.
