In this article, we demonstrate an assignment 1 in which students use TensorFlow to build a face recognition system. Students build shallow and deep neural networks for face recognition in TensorFlow and use transfer learning to obtain near-perfect performance on a simple face recognition task. Visualizing neural networks in order to explain how they work is central to the assignment.
