Abstract
À partir d’une citation implicite des Discours sur la première décade de Tite-Live de Machiavel dans le Tractatus politicus, nous voudrions montrer que l’idée spinozienne de démocratie est aporétique, car les stratégies que Spinoza propose afin d’établir un régime démocratique paraissent entrer en conflit avec son ontologie de la conservation. En même temps, nous pensons que le vide laissé par l’absence de la partie spécifiquement consacrée à la démocratie dans le Tractatus politicus peut être l’occasion, pour le lecteur de Spinoza, de repenser la politique comme un art de comprendre et de gérer les conflits sociaux plutôt que de les neutraliser. Vu sous cet angle, la démocratie, chez Spinoza, est la manifestation de la conflictualité naturelle de la société, une demande d’égalité entre les hommes qui conduit à une remise en question permanente des droits et de la propriété privée ainsi que de toute forme étatique institutionnalisée.
